Comprising of a short, medium and long course this event is a gentle move up to the longer distances. It is held in superb surroundings and on a road, which has very little traffic. On a Sunday morning it is only a 30 minute drive from Wellington CBD.

Transition.  The transition area for all distances will be on the grass area in front of the cafe.

 Short: Run 3km, Cycle13km, Run 3km Start 9.15am.

The first run is 3km starting at the  transition area the athletes will run towards and then onto the Tawa track. They will run around the Tawa track loop which exits onto the road behind the café. They will run for 1.75 km and then turn around a cone and return directly to the transition area following the race arrows to complete the first run. On reaching the  transition area they will have completed the 3km. Runners will be running along the park road and should be aware that this road is open to other road users. Signs will be placed to warn other road users that an event is in progress.

The cycle will be out onto the park road then turning left at the park/main coast road junction the cyclists go towards the coast. After 6.5km there will be a cone in the centre of the road with a marshal, the cyclists will turn around this cone and return to the  transition area. This completes the 13km cycle section. Remember the roads are open to other road users so cyclists must be especially aware of traffic when leaving/entering the park and when turning around the cone.

The  second run will be 1.5k on the same course as the first run. This time the competitors will finish through the finish gantry.

When entering and leaving the transition area competitors will follow the directions given by marshals and follow signs where necessary.

Medium: Run 4.7km, Cycle 26km, Run 3km Start 9.15am

The  first run will go out of the  transition area at the opposite end to the cafe. The runners will enter the TAWA Track and follow it round till it exits in the car park behind the cafe. The track will be signed. They will then run onto the park road and turn left going towards the top car park. When they reach the car park they follow the arrows to the left going over the new bridge and run on to the NGA TONGA track.    The course will be signed with arrows. The NGA TONGA track will be followed until it comes out on the park road where the runners will go right and return to the  transition area via the TAWA Track. Once in transition they will have completed the first run section. Some parts of this run are on an open road within the park so runners should be aware of other road users. This run has been chosen because of the safe run with minimal traffic use.

The cycle will be 2 laps of the same circuit as the short cycle. The turn at the end of each cycle loop will be by entering the park and cycling around the car park adjacent to the  transition area.

The Athletes Foot second run will be 3km leaving the  transition area the athletes will run towards and then onto the Tawa track. They will run around the Tawa track loop which exits onto the road behind the café. The Junior events are for those aged 8 to 14 years on race day. They will be split into two age groups 8/10 and 11/14. The run will be in the park and the cycle will be along the Hebden Crescent Road which has very little vehicular traffic on a Sunday morning. We have taken a lot of care in selecting the courses for the junior events to make sure that they are very safe.

General Info:

  • Please park in the designated car parks. This is a Park so we would appreciate it if you disposed of litter in the approved bins or better yet take it home with you.
  • There are toilets at the transition area and others about 5 minutes walk along the road towards the camp site.
