Anyone aged 8 to 14 on the day of the race can enter. Get your entry in as quick as you can because places are limited.
Just to make it clear if you are aged 7 then you are to young but we look forward to seeing you next year and if you are 15 then sorry you’re too old.
There are different categories:
- On your own as an individual which means you do the swim, cycle and run.
- As part of a team of two. One of you will have to do two of the disciplines* and the other one of the disciplines.
- As part of a team of three. Each person does one discipline.
- If you don’t fancy doing the swim we can offer you a run instead so you would complete a Duathlon (run/bike/run)
* In triathlon a discipline is one of the three sports, swimming, cycling or running.
HOW FAR DO I HAVE TO GO?
Distances are approximate, but to give you an idea, if you're between 8 and 10, you're looking at swimming 100m, biking around 4kms and running approximately 1.0km. The distances are slightly longer for 11-14 year-olds a 200m swim, a 8km bike and a 1.5km run. If you take the Duathlon option then a 0.5km or 1km run will be instead of the swim.

SPOT PRIZES
We said it before everyone’s a winner and the main object is to have fun and get you guys to have a go at a different sport. So we will not give prizes to those who come first, second or third. Instead everyone has the same chance to win one of the fantastic spot prizes we have on offer.
Do not throw your number away cause when the last person finishes the race we will see who wins the spot prizes. If your number is called then come on up to collect one of these top spots. You have to be at the presentation to win a top spot, if you have gone home early and your race number is called then you don’t get the prize, it will be redrawn. So stay behind and cheer the last competitors home.
PHOTO'S
We want you to have the chance to record your first Triathlon or perhaps just have a nice sporty photo to put in the front room, so professional photographers, Ross de Rouffignac and Graeme Bowden will be taking individual photos of participants during the triathlon. The photos will be presented on a souvenir mount to celebrate the event, and will be available for viewing and ordering (at a small charge) after the triathlon at www.graemebowden.co.nz.
The photographers will also be available to photograph family groups and teams before the start of the triathlon.
For any enquiries about the photography, please call Ross on 569 4973.
THE RULES
Yes there are some rules. Be fair, no cheating, we are here to have fun and a great day out.
Family or friends are not allowed to help, but they are allowed to shout encouragement and clap as hard as they can.
If you are watching and not competing you must stay off the course and out of the transition area.
People in the transition area must have a race number on or be an adult helping a child to rack or collect their cycle.
You may not remove your bike from the transition area until completion of the event, following prize giving.
Race numbers must be worn on the front of your t-shirt we will supply some pins to hold the numbers in place. Remember pin the number to your t shirt not your skin, ouch!! In the teams, the runners and the cyclists get to wear the numbers.
All bikes and helmets must be safety checked at Cycle Science prior to the event. Once checked bikes and helmets must have a "Bike checked" sticker. The Cycle Science shop is in Lower Hutt.
You must follow the marshals' instructions. They'll be the ones in the bright fluorescent bibs directing you around the course. There will also be arrows and cones so you will not get lost.
When you pass a marshal say "Thank you" then they will come back to help with the next event.
The Race Director has the last word, i.e. his decision on all race matters is final.
