WHY RUN/WALKS
Well, why not?
After expanding the Duathlons to include runners and walkers we decided that it would be a good idea to resurrect some of the "old favourites" that had died a natural death through lack of interest.
The Korokoro Stream Fun Runs, are open to runners and walkers. They combine a really tough half marathon with a 4km fun run and an honest 10km. All the distances include trails and paths through the Belmont Regional Park which offer quiet, safe running away from the exhaust fumes and dangers of the common motor vehicle. Added is the extra bonus of a beautiful scenic course with some fantastic views across Wellington and towards Kapiti (if the weather is right).
The Pencarrow Lighthouse Half marathon will now be an out and back run, there'll be no waiting on buses to bring you back to the start area, so that has to be a bonus. All off road with no traffic in sight, well I lie there may be the odd marshal cruising through, 5km and 10km walks/runs will be included so all the family can have a go in safe surroundings along a pretty coast. This is a flat course so you may turn in a PB but on the day the good old Wellington wind (that's the weather) may prove to be an unexpected artificial hill.
New for 2010 is the Brookfield Bog Challenge (BBC). Based at the Scout complex just beyond Wainuiomata we can promise lots of water and mud with an interesting hill to keep you amused. Throw in some obstacles including the pond wade and a good time will be had by all.

Finally the Petone Workingmens Club 5 Bridges Marathon. 2009 is the second year for this one and we have the Petone Workingmens Club on board as sponsors. The course will start at the Club and hit the Hutt Riv er Trail then follow it through to Moonshine for the full Marathon. The half, 10km and 5km will turn on the way. Great flat off road run with very little traffic. We have introduced a 1km run for 5-12 year olds so the whole family can have a go.
Keep an eye on the web site to see additions to the run walks events.
At the moment we want to get the events off the ground but as they grow we will introduce various categories so any suggestions for what you would like to see in these events will be considered. So get the thinking hat on and let us know.
Don't forget, you can stay with us through the winter for 5km and 10km walks/runs. They go parallel to the Duathlons so just check out the Duathlon site for times and locations. Reasonable entry fees and the chance to win great prizes.
