Lyall Bay Surf & Lifesaving Club Inc has been patrolling Lyall Bay beach since 15 August 1910 and is the oldest patrolling club in New Zealand. It celebrates its centenary on Labour Weekend 2010 as the first surf lifesaving club in New Zealand to patrol a beach. During that time, the members of Lyall Bay Surf & Lifesaving Club have made a significant contribution to the water safety and recreational needs of Wellington citizens. Lyall Bay is one of the strongest clubs in New Zealand and its volunteer members continue to serve the community.
This milestone provides a great opportunity to celebrate Lyall Bay Surf & Life Saving clubs achievements, catch up with past and present members and enjoy the events we have organised for the weekend.
The celebrations will also recognise the Wellington Ladies Club that started in 1940 and amalgamated with Lyall Bay in 1976. We extend a welcome to all former Wellington Ladies members to join us in these centenary celebrations.
